Lando : 913-914 A.D.

121. Born in Sabina, he was elected June 913 - died February 914.

He came to the papal seat as a result of the intrigues of one of the numerous factions He died in mysterious circumstances after having succeeded, among other things, in restoring peace on civil strife.

The brevity of these two pontificates, that of Lando and his predecessor Anastasius III, is apparently due to their tragic end caused by opposing factions.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificate lasted about 7 months.

122. Born in Tossignano, he was elected March 914 - died May 928.

He was elected as a result of intrigues and condemned the authors. He marched against the Saracens and surprisingly defeated them on the Garigliano.

When he conducted the army, people said he behaved as a Pope and General at the same time.

He was murdered in jail since he did not want to accept shady intrigues.

He is buried in the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. His pontificate lasted 14 years and 2 months.


Leo VI : 928 A.D. 123. Born in Rome. He was elected May 928 - died December 928.

He was elected according to the will of powerful Marotia. He did his best to try to settle disputes in Rome.

He fought against the Saracens and the cruel Hungarians and defeated them.

He made arts, commerce and industries flourish again.

During his pontificate, the Prefect of Rome was appointed together with two consuls and the tribune of the people.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificated lasted only 7 months.


Stephen VII : 928-931 A.D. 124. Born in Rome. Elected December 928 - died February 931.

He was elected as a result of the powerful intrigues of the earls of Tuscolo when Rome was ruled by Marotia, the Marquise of Tuscia. He supported the monasteries of St Vincenzo al Volturno, S. Gerardo di Bragne and two cenobies in Gaul.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificate lasted about 2 years and 2 months.
