John VI : 701-705 A.D.

85. Born in Ephesus. Elected October 30, 701 died January 11, 705.

During particularly difficult moments for Christianity.

Christianity was rejected in the East and in Spain by the Saracen Turks and started to spread all over Europe causing serious damage to Christian people.

He defended the prerogatives of the Church against the Eastern emperor and delivered many slaves.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificated lasted about 3 years.

John VII : 705-707 A.D.

86. Born in Rossano de Calabria. Elected March 1, 705 - died October 18, 707.

He did not give his consensus to the shady pretensions of the Emperor Justinian II, who gave way to the slaughters that had forced Latin and Italian peoples to abandon the Eastern Empire.

We owe to John VII the golden mosaic (705) of the Epiphany, a work which was kept in the oratory of the old Basilica of St. Peter and can be currently found in the sacristy of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificate lasted 2 years and 8 months.

Sissinius : 708 A.D.

87. Born in Syria. Elected January 15, 708 - died February 4, 708.

Given the short period of his pontificate, he did not leave significant works.

He ordered the restoration of the Roman walls that had been damaged during the attacks and the continuing threats coming from the Longobards and Saracens.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. He died after only 20 days of pontificate.

Constantine : 708-715 A.D.

88. Born in Syria. Elected March 25, 708 - died April 9, 715.

He was forced to go the Byzantium where he restored peace between the Church and the Empire.

He encouraged the Christians from Spain to react against the unfaithful.

As a sign of obedience and worship, he introduced the kissing of the holy foot of the bronze statue of the Apostle Peter.

He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificate lasted about 7 years.
