(1) The sample in here presented is a 95% reduction photocopy of the original test sheet.
(2) This is not an average for the book; just for the page being used as a sample. Book
average is ca. 12.6 [See (3) below]. The 11.36 wpl was used above because it can be related
directly with the confirmed sample of 9.52 wpl and 7.41 wpl figures.
(3) On a random sample of the book it was estimated that the book had an overall line-word
density averaging: 12.6 words per line and an overall page-line density averaging 24.4 lines per
page. There are 209 actual text pages; 139 full and 70 beginning and ending of chapters. These 70
pages are considered on the average 50% effective. Thus "equivalent full pages in book" = 139 +
0.5x70 = 174 pages.
